I've been living in Los Angeles doing visual effects for films for the last 15 years. One of the funnest and most satisfying films I worked on was the Narnia film for which we did the lion (no, he isn't real!) and all the battle sequences. I also had the pleasure to work on the second Fantasia movie at Disney. I use my middle name / married name for work -- Amie Slate -- but old friends and family still call me Loren. The movie business is one of long, long hours for weeks on end, but in my spare time, I also went through the 4 year training to become a Feldenkrais practitioner. Feldenkrais is a form of somatic education using movement. I teach classes twice a week and I love it. I call them my Humpty-Dumpty classes.
I NEVER thought I would end up living in LA. But I live in a great neighborhood and the weather (most of the time) is really nice. I still come up to the Bay Area to visit friends and family and it's always great to be there.
